Frequently Asked Questions
Make sure the litter is at least two inches deep in the litter box. Larger litter boxes may need more than one bag.
Place the litter box away from high-moisture areas like showers and laundry machines. The humidity and steam will be absorbed by the crystals, leaving less absorption power for your cat’s business.
Stir litter daily to expose new odor-locking crystals. Change the litter once it's getting saturated. Some cats urinate more frequently and therefore need litter changes more frequently.
One bag of PrettyLitter lasts about a month for most households, but some households need to change litter sooner to keep odors at bay. If that sounds like you, we recommend updating the frequency of your deliveries so you always have fresh litter on hand.
Typical
Dark yellow/olive green indicates cat urine within the typical range.
Acidity
Orange may indicate metabolic acidosis or kidney tubular acidosis.
Alkalinity
Blue may indicate certain types of urinary tract infections or increased risk of stone formation.
Blood
Red may indicate bladder crystals, feline lower urinary tract issues, or certain types of kidney disease.
If abnormal color persists for 48 hours or your cat is exhibiting any signs of distress, consult with your cat’s veterinarian.
The litter can sometimes change color even when nothing is wrong. A change in diet, environment, or short-term stress can cause changes in your cat’s urine so we recommend taking your cat to your local veterinarian if the color change persists for 24-48 hours.
The Cheese-On-Broccoli Method:
Pour ¾ of your bag of PrettyLitter into the litter box and cover the top with your old, familiar litter. Your cat will recognize your old litter and begin mixing it in with PrettyLitter throughout the month. After one month, you should be able to use PrettyLitter without your old litter.
The Slow Swap Method:
Add PrettyLitter to your cat’s litter box over the course of a few weeks. On week one, fill 25% of your litter box with PrettyLitter and 75% with your old, familiar litter. On week two, have a 50:50 ratio of PrettyLitter to your old litter. On week three, fill 75% of your litter box with PrettyLitter, and on week four you should be able to fill your box with 100% PrettyLitter.
Change the litter when a new bag arrives OR when the litter is saturated or smells. Dump the entire content of the litter box, clean the box, then replace it with a whole bag of fresh PrettyLitter.
If you notice that you’re needing new litter more frequently (i.e. if the litter saturates before 4 weeks), try updating the frequency of your deliveries so you always have fresh litter on hand.
You need enough PrettyLitter to achieve two inches of depth in all of your litter boxes, so the size of the litter box will affect the amount needed.
With the correct amount of PrettyLitter, one fill should last an entire month for one medium-sized cat.

PrettyLitter can cling to certain paw and fur combos more than others. We recommend using a litter mat with geometric holes to catch the crystals that get carried out of the box.
For extra scatter protection, we also recommend a top-entry or high-sided litter box to help knock off any excess litter.
